Set on sandstone and sandy soils, Waverley has spectacular natural assets including a variety of landforms and environmental features. Our open water, cliffs, beaches, rock platforms, intertidal areas, foreshores and marine environments are all home to local plants and animals, including endangered ecological communities, remnant vegetation and threatened species.
Waverley’s beaches and coast are world-famous and provide many spaces for recreation and enjoyment, but they require sensitive management to ensure our biodiversity can thrive and impacts of climate change and urban development can be moderated.
As you explore the coastline, this self-guided walk will outline significant natural features, including protected areas and habitats, ecological restoration sites, notable local plants and animals and Council projects that improve the health and resilience of this precious landscape.
